Changing things a bit

Hi everyone -

At one of the last races I did, I was picking up my packet when someone said "Hey, this guy has the best running blog in Reno!" (And, um, if that was you, please let me know who you are - I'm terrible with names and really need to make a better effort there...) Anyway, that felt really good, but got me thinking - what do I really do for my blog, other than posting a few race photos and whining about injuries once in a while? So - I've decided to switch things up a bit, and try do give back to the Reno running community in some way that I can.

So, I'm going to try to make this blog a bit more of a resource for running in Reno. As you can see, I've retooled the sidebar a bit, adding a calendar of races and a list of resource pages. I'll try to post about running news, local and interesting, more often, and see what other info I can come up with. If anyone has anything they'd like me to add, or other suggestions for the blog, I'd be more than happy to hear. Email me at runningroundreno (at) - which I'll put somewhere in the sidebar as well.

And please leave comments - keep me motivated to continue, both with the blog and with running regularly. Hope to see you all out there, on the streets, trails, and at races!

Thanks Turi for doing all the "leg work" for those of us looking for races and their sometimes obscure web links. I super appreciate it and have already added like 10 races to my calendar! You rock! :)

Sorry to hear your TRT didn't go great. Mine didn't either. Bummed my trip into town was so brief and on short notice, I would have really liked to meet in person, but it was all really helter skelter.

Anyway, I think the recent evolutions of your blog are awesome, even if I'm not a local Reno runner. I like the race reviews you started doing a couple of months ago. They have been thorough and seemed really fair. Good info for people thinking about running one of those races, and, if I were RD, I'd appreciate the feedback. Keep up the great work!

Greetings Turi!

Another race I know you are familiar with:

I've followed your blog for quite a while and definitely enjoy it. I've said hi at races but we've only "formally" met once. You were training on the TRT years ago (before your first 50k) and I passed you while you were getting rocks out of your shoe. We talked for a while at the Spooner trail head while you were waiting for your ride (I think you wrote a blog post about that run).

Anyway, keep up the great work...What "we" really need is a great archive of trails (maps, elevations, distances). Let's go on some runs sometime and start working on that!

I should add that the Striders added a 10k to the Fall Colors half this year.

Thanks for the feedback, Amber and Stacy - Really appreciate it.

Darren - Still getting that calendar built up - got the events in, and am going to be filling others in soon. Thanks for the link.

And hmm, a database of trails. Sounds like a big project. I'll have to think about how that would work, but it sure would be useful...

I agree with what Darren said about the database of trails, so go for it! I have been planning on creating such a thing for the Tahoe trails for years now. One day I'll get around to it. I would love to see that info on Reno trails!
